SPORTS VOCUBULARY

Hi Everyone..

Today, in this blog, I am writing to give some vocabulary about sports :

1- Contact sports

Definition : Sports like rugby, American football and wrestling in which the players have strong physical contact with each other.

He played contact sports when he was younger but then he had a serious accident on the field and hasn't played rugby since.

2- Spectator sports

Definition : Sports which people go to watch.

I don't understand why people think golf is a good spectator sport. It's so slow and not much happens in it.

3- Blood sports

Definition : Sports that involve animals being killed or hurt to excite the people watching or taking part.

I don't understand why people enjoy killing tigers. There are so few of them left in the world. I think blood sports should be outlawed .

Hopefully the vocaubularies will be beneficial to you.

Hi everybody

Today, I'd like to write a little bit of questions. The purpose of this writing is to remember what I've only just read about questions. Sometimes I forgot what I read, so I decided to write it to remember it. And also I hope it will be beneficial to you.

I will try to take it is not going to take too long so that you will find it's interesting.

Let's take a sentence, for example " William ate a lof of chocolate". In this sentence, "William" is the subject and "a lot of chocolate" is the object.

1- When we want to make the subject question we do not need the auxilliary verb, for example : Who ate a lot of chocolate?. The answer is "William".

2- When we want to make the object question we need the auxilliary verb "did", for example : What did Willian eat?. The answer is " a lot of chocolate"

A book review (Corrected)

Hi I'm chiaki.

I'm going to talk about a book. Title is ROAD TO NOWHERE. I choose this book by its title.

It made me wonder. I thought why road to nowhere? I thought it would be an interesting story.

The story is set in Um Khalid. There is a side of the river. This was a British colony. Now the British had just left this country. So, there is a developing country. Suddenly, the government suggests building a new boarding school in Um Khalid. Therefore, a new road is nedded between school to Um Khalid. The Young people agreed with this plan. But the old people and conservative people do not agree. However, a new road is built. When they built the new road, they forgot about rainy season. So, rainy season came to Um Khalid. The Um Khalid was washed away by the rainy season.

In this story, conservative thinking is right answer. I think that this story teaches us when we make new something, we have to think well. And we have to listen to another's thinking.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Title : The Sign Of Four.

Author : Arthur Conan Dougle.

Genre : Adventure

Reason for choosing this book : I like this book because of its short. I like investigative story.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Setting : The story is set in 1887 or 1888. 'The Sign Of Four' has a complex plot involving service in colonial India and a stolen treasure and secret pact among four ex-convicts.
Characters : Sherlock Holmes, Dr Wason
The plot : This book has an interesting plot that always encourages us to follow it. It is a mystery story book and an enjoyable read.
MY OPINION
I particularly enjoyed reading this book, because the book tries to explain some mysteries during the story. For example, "since her father disappeared, she received a large pearls via the post on the same day every year. Who is sending them?"
Although this mystery is not so mysterious but it was an interesting and well-written story. If someone is looking for a mystery and investigative book, this it is.
In my opinion, this book is really my cup of tea. Another thing I would like to say is may be everyone who read it they will be surprised at Sherlock Holmes's conclusion.
Reason for the above : I think the first page of this book is enough to explain that the book is mysterious and that it has an interesting story to follow it.
The English : This book is good for intermediate level. Sometimes, it can be difficult to take it in all at once, because there are many unknown words in some paragraph and it is difficult to get used to the structure of the sentences.
Overall comment : Overall, it is an interesting book to read , and quite mysterious. There are so many useful words to be learned.
Evolution : 7/10

A Kiss Before Dying (Corrected)

Author:Ira Levin
Original title :Kiss Before Dying
Placed & time :United States 1953

The Story
Bud Corliss is born into a working-class family and raised by his mother after his father walked out. As an adult, he uses an uncanny ability to adapt his personality to any given situation to chase his dreams of wealth and success — to be achieved by any means necessary.
An overachiever, he is a stellar student in high school and enlists in the Korean War at 18, returning as a decorated hero. The most pivotal moment in his life occurs during the war, when he corners, shoots and kills a North Korean soldier, who is so terrified of an American soldier with a gun that he wets his pants. Corliss is both elated by the total power he held over the soldier and disgusted by a display of terror he considers weak and unmanly. He makes up his mind then and there to never show any sign of vulnerability.
Upon returning to the U.S., he enrolls in college and meets Dorothy Kingship, the daughter of a wealthy copper tycoon. Seeing an opportunity to attain the riches he has always craved, he becomes Dorothy's lover, but panics when she announces she is pregnant. He is sure that her stern, conservative father will disown her. Resolving to get rid of Dorothy, he tricks her into writing a letter that, to an unknowing observer, would look like a suicide note and then murders her. He runs no risk of getting caught, having urged Dorothy to keep their relationship a secret from her family and friends. He continues to live with his mother, who dotes on him and has no clue as to what he has done.
Corliss lies low for a few months until the press coverage of Dorothy's death has subsided. Then he pursues Dorothy's sister, Ellen. The romance is going according to plan — until Ellen begins to probe into Dorothy's death, convinced her sister did not kill herself. Ellen eventually confronts Corliss, who calmly confesses to the crime before murdering her as well.
Not to be discouraged, Corliss courts the last remaining Kingship daughter, Marion. This affair is the most successful; Corliss sweeps her off her feet, meets and charms her father, and eventually asks her to marry him, a proposal she gleefully accepts.
Detective Gordon Gant refuses to give up, however, breaking into Corliss' childhood home and stealing a written plan for meeting and seducing Marion to get her family's money, as well as news clippings about Dorothy's and Ellen's deaths. Days before the wedding, he shows up at the Kingship family home and presents Marion and her father with the evidence of Corliss' deception.
On a trip to one of the Kingship family's copper manufacturing plants, Marion, her father and Grant all corner Corliss while he is standing over a vat of molten copper and threaten to expose him. Corliss frantically pleads his innocence, but they are unmoved. Realizing his luck has finally run out and that he is facing the electric chair, Corliss at last loses his composure and wets his pants — just as the North Korean soldier, his symbol of pathetic cowardice, had done. Delirious with panic and shame, Corliss loses his footing and falls to his death into the vat below.

Review
It is a famous story of a young man who lets the American dream run away with his soul. Bud Corliss is a completely cynical version of the same character, a man who will do anything it takes to get what he wants, including committing two ghastly killings.
My comment
I loved this book! Once you start reading this book and getting into it, it captures you to where you never want to put it down. This book makes you gasp, laugh, cry, and also make you bite your finger nails! If you love romantic and suspenceful books this is the one for you. I truly must say that this is the best book i have read for a long time

Memoirs of a Geisha (Martina's) (Corrected)

Hi!!!!!
I'm Martina! I want to write about the book that I've just finished reading, "Memoirs of a geisha".
The story is all about Sayuri, the geisha, from when she was a little girl called Chiyo who lived in a small fish town to when she stopped being a geisha and moved to New York.
So it is an autobiographal book (it is all narrated in first person), in which it is interesting to know about the traditional japanese figure of the geisha and about Sayuri's life, her studies to become a geisha, her enemies, her friends, her lovers, all with the social background of the second world war.
This book is edited by the "Penguin readers" and it is written by Arthur Golden. It is for the advanced level but the language is very simple and the words used very common. Maybe the only difficut is about the japanese words that aren't translated in English but they are always explained.
I really like this book and now I want to watch the film and see if the story is the same and how the director has imagined all the characters, espacially Sayuri, the main character.
Anyway if you want to read a simple but interesting story, and find out more about the geisha's world, this is the right book!
